Lighthouse History
Built: 1934 Type: Pyramidal Height: 30 Status: Active Location: Budd Inlet Lens: 250mm Signal: Fog Keepers: Local Residents Notes: In 1887 a lens lantern
atop a twelve foot stake at the entrance to Budd inlet .
In 1934, the light was upgraded a notch to the present thirty-foot, pyramidal
concrete tower. Unlike most lighthouses, Dofflemeyer Point was not assigned
a formal keeper. Instead, local residents were contracted to care for the
light and activate the fog signal. In the 1960s the light was automated
by the Coast Guard, however, the fog signal still required manual activation.
