Story Below:
"Bodie Island
Lighthouse"
I recently returned from
a three-week housesitting "job" for some friends in the beautiful Outer
Banks of North Carolina. While there, I volunteered to "work" at Bodie
Island Lighthouse keeping the tower open for visitors to view and to answer
questions about the lighthouse. I had an absolutely wonderful time,
met some great people and fell in love with Bodie Island Lighthouse.
Although not open for climbing,
one can only imagine the spectacular view from the top because of the beautiful
setting that surrounds the tower. The grounds are owned by the National
Park Service while the tower itself is still maintained by the Coast Guard.
It is my hope that when ownership is transferred to the Park Service, the
tower will be restored and open for climbing the 214 stairs to the top.
I know I will be one of the first to volunteer to make this happen!
I love lighthouses and have
visited many in Maine, Michigan and other places, but I believe my heart
belongs in the Outer Banks at Bodie Island.
